"... still as a junior, he conducted on behalf of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers a case in the High Court in which he secured a reversal of the Court's earlier doctrine of the immunity of state government instrumentalities from Commonwealth legislation. This case is acknowledged to have been a landmark in constitutional history, and also to have thrust Menzies into the limelight and his career upwards."
