Sir Robert Menzies
When World War I broke out in 1914 Robert's two elder brothers enlisted and went overseas. After a family conference in it was agreed that he should not enlist but should complete his law course. In 1916 Robert graduated from the University of Melbourne with First Class Final Honours in Law.
Australian Events
ANZAC (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) and Allied troops land on April 25, 1915 on the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey and immediately encounter stout resistance. 8,700 Australians die and 19,000 are wounded in the eight month campaign.
World Events
November 11, 1918 World War I ends: Germany agrees to an Armistice which is signed by Germany and the Allies.
