- Edith Cowan is the first woman to be elected to a state parliament (Western Australia). Her formal introduction to parliament is witnessed by curious onlookers from the public gallery.
- Anzac Day: an Australian tradition is born as a nation salutes its war heroes. Thousands of soldiers parade through the streets and thousands more line the route to honour the returned and the fallen.
- Dr Earle Page is elected permanent leader of the newly formed Australian Country Party.
